Betsson Obtains Brazilian Gaming License

Betsson has officially secured a license to operate online casino and sports betting services in Brazil, marking a pivotal milestone in the company’s expansion across Latin America. The license, which came into effect on February 25, 2025, comes as Brazil implements its new iGaming regulatory framework, established under Law No. 14,790/2023, which took effect on January 1, 2025.

With this move, Betsson enters one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing gambling markets, becoming the latest operator of online casinos in Brazil, where strict licensing requirements, responsible gaming measures, and consumer protections are now in place.

Brazil’s iGaming Regulation: The Key Facts

Brazil has introduced a structured regulatory framework for online gambling, requiring all operators to comply with strict licensing conditions and responsible gaming measures. The new rules aim to create a safer and more transparent betting environment while ensuring government oversight and taxation of the industry.

Key regulatory requirements include:

• Local Licensing – Operators must secure approval from Brazilian authorities, paying a BRL 30 million licensing fee and maintaining a physical presence in the country.
• Consumer Protection & Responsible Gaming – Strict safeguards are in place, including mandatory self-exclusion tools, advertising restrictions, and responsible gaming initiatives.
• Taxation & Revenue Allocation – Licensed operators are subject to a 12% tax on gross gaming revenue (GGR), with proceeds directed toward public welfare programs, sports funding, and responsible gambling efforts.
• Compliance & Security – Operators must implement Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures and anti-money laundering (AML) measures to ensure transparency and prevent fraud.
